2009 / Collaborative Grid Sequencer
An experimental grid sequencer, controlled wirelessly with three ipod touch/iphone devices. After playing with the tenori-on and iphone-based grid sequencers like Melodica and SoundGrid, I started to realize the potential for linking multiple casual or non-musicians with simple grid based sequencers. I built a basic proof of concept in MaxMSP, using osc to communicate with the portable devices, and midi to communicate with Ableton Live. The sequence data was stored in a single RGB jitter matrix, allowing easy visualization of the performance in real time, as the data storage method was itself the visualization.
Later this was expanded into the base software for the Syzygryd project.
